Please know who you are buying from. The rule of thumb is that a tree dries an inch a year from the outside in when left unsplit. By the time the center of the log dries the outside will be rotten. So all those ads that show rounds... Just think about how wet the inside of those rounds are once they split them and deliver them in the same week. They might actually be 2 years old, but they were just processed and therefore won't burn. ESPECIALLY eucalyptus! Another thing to consider is that a tree will shed its bark during the drying process. At the very least it should peel back.
You will also see the term "mix" a lot. Mix wood = Mystery wood... At this time of year do you really want to purchase wood gathered from tree services etc? Our splitters are cold right now. The work was done months ago and we are too busy delivering.
There are a lot of "business names" out there, but they won't accept a check in their name. Why?... No business checking. They won't provide an invoice either. So what recourse do you have if your unsatisfied with your short or wet delivery. Pretty much a guy in a pickup and a prepaid cell. The firewood business is amongst the worst industries for honesty. We are a full time year round business. Our commercial accounts keep us going 52 weeks a year. There is a reason restaurants and retailers choose us!
